The Moscow Mule is quickly becoming one of the most popular drinks around. And for good reason– they’re delicious and appropriate for all occasions, from classy cocktail bars to trashy frat parties.

It’s hard to find a drink as versatile as the Moscow Mule. It’s also hard to find a delicious drink that’s as easy to make as a Moscow Mule. But with only three ingredients and simple mixing instructions, the Moscow Mule is truly the best of both worlds.

So how do you make a Moscow Mule? The Moscow Mule recipe is very simple–

Start With A Chilled Copper Mug

This is what makes the Moscow Mule so iconic. When people see a drink served in a copper mug, they know exactly what it is. Plus it’s unique and makes you stand out- in a very good way. These four copper mugs are our favorite choices.

Add 2-3 Ice Cubes

When making any cocktail that requires ice, it’s always proper to add the ice into the glass first. The uneven pouring surface helps mix the different ingredients, and it also prevents having to drop ice cubes into a full drink and splashing your beautiful creation everywhere.

Add 3 Parts Vodka (1.5oz)

Now we get to the fun part. A proper Moscow Mule calls for Smirnoff vodka, but honestly any vodka will do. For a drink that’s not too strong but still packs some punch, pour 1.5oz. However if you deviate from that, just make sure you keep the 3:1 vodka-to-lime juice ratio intact. This is where a jigger really comes in handy!

Add 1 Part Lime Juice (0.5oz)

For that classic Moscow Mule taste, add 0.5oz of lime juice. This complements the ginger beer so well while adding a splash of citrus refreshment.

Top It Off With Ginger Beer

Top off the drink with ginger beer. The proper recipe calls for Cock ‘N Bull Ginger Beer, however any ginger beer will do. Different brands do vary wildly in terms of taste, sweetness and “kick”, so you may have to experiment to find a brand that matches your tastes.

Garnished With A Wedge Of Lime

Squeeze out the juice of one more small wedge of lime into the mug, then toss the remains on the top of the drink for decoration.

Congrats, you’ve now got yourself the most delicious drink imaginable!
